Usage of Agarwood
Agarwood is in great demand for cultural and religious use. In Buddhist religious worship, the highest quality offering a devotee can make is to burn agarwood in the form of wood chips or incense. In Buddhism, the offering of incense is a purification ritual in which the incense is burned so as to purify the space around the statues of Buddha. This had been the history of culture of many Buddhist countries such as China and Japan ; The incense made from Agarwood is also mentioned several times in the Holy Bible.
Agarwood is one of the top quality ingredient of many incense products such as chipped mixed fragrance which consists of agarwood, sandalwood , cloves, ginger and ambergris etc; blended incense balls composed by a mixture of as many as 20 different powdered ingredients including agarwood, held together by a bonding agent that is either honey or the flesh of plums; blended incense sticks are the most commonly available form of incense products, and vary in length and thickness according to the period of time they are required to burn. The incense sticks may contain different proportions, different grades, of agarwood as ingredients. The last but not least is that agarwood is also important in its traditional medical application on account of its effectiveness as sedative, tranquilizer, in detoxifying the body and maintaining stomach health.
Owing to agarwood's broad usage and general acceptance by the rich populations, agarwood is under great demand by wealthy countries like United Emirates of Arabia, Saudi Arabia, Japan , Taiwan and China .
